Home battery cost and quotes

A home battery costs about £5,000 on average, fitted. With solar panels it lets you use more of your own power in the evening, worth about £167 a year more on a typical 4.5 roof (our estimate). On that saving alone it takes a long time to pay back; it pays faster if you also charge it on a cheap night rate, or want backup in a power cut.

A large power station gives power-cut backup without an installer. Some plug-in solar kits come with a plug-in battery.

Batteries we list: home solar batteries compared. They are never ranked, because fitting decides more than the box.

Check the installer. Use an MCS-certified installer. You need MCS certification to be paid for the electricity you export, and it is how you know the installer meets the industry standard. Ask for the certificate number and look it up on the MCS website.

Not electrical advice. We compare products and point you to installers; we are not electricians. A registered installer must design and fit rooftop panels, batteries and car chargers, and tell your network operator.
